One of strongest promoters of face-to-face communication against communication via devices is Sherry Turkle. Her Ted-Talk "Connected, but alone" (2011) examines how smartphones who we are as people and how they take away time from our loved ones. She also provided great expertise of how these devices actually makes us feel lonelier than it does connected because we're not with real people. Turkle has been on this debate as a cultural analyst for the past 10-15 years and has been able to get down to the heart of why technology has provided such a negative effect on human communication.
