What is Internet/Technology Addiction? A Look into the Disorder.

Internet/Technology addiction is when you've become heavily reliant on digital technologies, such as social media or gaming, for pleasure or happiness. As a result, it begins to take a huge physical and psychological toll on that individual. Elsevier notes that irritability, anxiety, and sadness are among the withdrawal symptoms from internet/technology addiction. It's very serious disorder that doctors and researchers are conducting many studies on.

To find the prevalence of this disorder, Fast Company conducted a poll of 162 of its readers to see if they were internet-addicted in 2013. 47.5% said yes (8.1 hrs per day), while 52.5% said no (7.7 hrs per day). In order to continue using the Internet, sleeping (70%), using the bathroom (68%), and spending time with friends (41%) are the top three of forgoing this process. Even though this poll was taken seven years ago, the material still stay very relevant today.
